The Bloomfield News, Friday September 11, 1908 page 4 column 4 and 5 David Baker was born about the year of 1924, in Tennessee; came with hisparents to this country when about 10 years of age. He was in theservice in the Civil war and after his return home he was married toSusan Hardesty. To this union was born six children, four of whom areliving - Granvil Baker, of Bedford; Hiram Newton, of Koleen; Marquis D.J., of Jasonville; Mrs. Sarah Wright, of Koleen. He lived a greatportion of his life as a moral man and good citizen, and at the age ofabout sixty-five he accepted the promises of Christ - ("Although heavyhairs may thy temples adorn, like lambs ye shall still in my bosom bebore"). He united with the Church of Christ at this place, under thepreaching of Rev. Henry Shaw, and by him was buried with Christ inChristian baptism. He was a man of convictions on all subjects to whichhe gave his attention, which naturally identified him with those personsinterested in morality, education and religion. He was strictly honestand very congenial in nature; a great lover of young people andchildren. During his eighty-four years of life he had some very sadexperiences - the home-going of two idolized children, Jonas and Martha, and the wife who went away only about eight months ago, was a hard blowfor Uncle Abe. In his last sickness, in hours of delirium he engaged in conversationwith some one, presumably his wife. There is only a veil between thebetter world and this, and as this fades away the other comes in view. Deceased was a farmer by occupation in the years of his activity, andmost of his long life was spent in this community. |
